"This is Commander Melo of the Japanese-Canadian Supramarine Command Vessel Shima-Van Horne reporting. The date is-oh screw this.

"I sound like a damn lunatic talking into this thing. Listen, all that has to be said are the current conditions, which I already wrote down in my mountain of paper work! None the less, I suppose I could describe the scene outside. Below us (us being the 406 civilian crew members) is the planet Kanata, the site of Japanada's largest orbital supramarine base. We are currently in low orbit 400 km above the surface of the planet as the final system checks are being completed. Our mission is, in a few words, to find new homes. We'll be spending the next fives years in away from civilization.

"I was recently promoted to Commander and Shima-Van Horne is my first appointment as the Executive Officer. This ship is named after some important rail road builders from Ancient Earth or something, not like it particularity matters. I...I know sound slightly pissed off. I also know I'm supposed to be excited, and I am. But a few days ago during the last meeting between all four Executive Officers, Captain Ishida of the Frobisher-Tanaka called me out on my submitted exploration strategy. My plan for this crew is to focus on brighter yellow and yellow-white dwarf stars, even though they are greatly outnumbered by dim, red dwarfs. Since we'll have significantly less targets than Captain Ishida (who intends to focus on red dwarf systems) it is my intention to burn fast and hard so we can cover more systems. The Captain was 'concerned' I would push my ship too hard, especially since I elected not to only partially load up on supplies and pick the rest up in a few months in order to 'reduce the stresses on the vessel.' I'm sorry capt'n, but I'm not going to be wasting any time visiting some godforsaken outpost just because I think my ship wasn't built for space travel.

"The Frobisher-Tanaka was the first to leave and we're up third. That just gives us 45 more hours with civilization. After that, it's the unknown. Goodnight."
